Welcome, and thank you for your interest in St. Peter School! Founded in 1868, St. Peter School is one of the very first Catholic elementary schools of Washington, DC. As we approach our 150th anniversary, we continue our tradition of faith formation, academic excellence, and strong community ties. Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, we challenge our students with a rigorous academic program, and teach our students how to be considerate, contributing members of a global society. Students at every grade level also participate in service learning as an expression of our mission.
St. Peter School offers a pre-kindergarten through eighth grade program with a student body averaging 220, one class per grade. Our objective is to meet the needs of all students and to allow each child to reach his or her maximum potential. We have cultivated a dedicated faculty & staff who are professional and caring in spirit. Approximately 80 percent of our administration and faculty members hold an advanced degree and we are constantly perfecting our craft through on-site professional development, conferences, workshops, and graduate coursework. We also have three resource instructors who work with small, differentiated learning groups in the classroom, and a licensed school nurse and school counselor on staff.
Our well-rounded curriculum, based on Archdiocese of Washington standards, includes reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Students also participate in foreign language, art, music, physical education, health & wellness, and mindfulness. We provide our students with daily access to state of the art technology and multimedia classrooms; technology is integrated across the curriculum
Our middle school shares a vision of high expectations and performance with proven results. Our graduates have set a tradition of acceptance to the high schools of their choice. Among others, these include, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, Gonzaga College High School, Elizabeth Seton High School, DeMatha Catholic High School, The Academy of the Holy Cross, St. John’s College High School, Bishop O’Connell High School, Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, National Cathedral School, and The School Without Walls.
Our surrounding neighborhood has much to offer. Our students have the benefit of three outdoor parks within two blocks of the school for outdoor activities; historic buildings, museums, and the Folger Shakespeare Theatre within walking distance; and two subway stations for easy transportation to other parts of the city. Teachers and students never need to go far to take advantage of educational opportunities outside of the classroom. We are reminded of the special, historic neighborhood in which our school is located as we are able to see both the Washington Monument and top of the Capitol Dome from our building.
