Tampa Catholic High School

One major goal of St. Peter School education is to establish in students the Catholic ethic of concern for and service to others. In school, students regularly engage in service activities designed to foster social awareness, primarily through the Student Families program and Student Council, and middle school students are required to perform 15 hours of community service each year. Scouting and Leadership programs through the parish complement school programming and offer an opportunity for students to interact with young parishioners across Capitol Hill.

Student Families

St. Peter School has 10 Student Families, which include representative students from every grade and are led by Grade 8 students. Student Families engage in monthly community learning or service projects. Traditionally, these include preparing layette bags for the Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center, supporting Everyone Home DC with Christmas or Easter donations, and collecting donations of canned goods through the annual Greg Gannon Canned Food Drive (to name just a few). When not engaging in community outreach, Student Families support inter-grade friendships and encourage mentorships.

Student Council

Student Council officers and representatives are elected by the student body each fall to lead many service activities throughout the school year. These include canned food or winter clothing drives and raising thousands of dollars each school year for charitable organizations through monthly “tag” days, where students bring a donation in exchange for themed, out-of-uniform dress.

Scouts and Brownies

Many St. Peter School students in grades 2-8 participate in parish scouting programs during evenings and weekends (Girl Scouts - Cadette Troop 4608; Girl Scouts - Junior Troop 44048; Brownies; Cub Scouts Pack 380; and Boy Scouts Troop 380). These offer well-structured, adult-supervised opportunities to try new things, provide service to others, build self-confidence, reinforce ethical standards, and promote a sense of responsibility to God, country, and community.
